The Grouch Ladybug

1. Study a real ladybug using the Proscope (displayed on a tv or projector).

2. Idea from Prescott: Kindergarten teacher, Kelly Fay, has a great "grouchy ladybug" project that takes advantage of the school camera.

(another type of technology).

Kelly takes a photo of each student making a really grouchy face.

The students make large paper ladybugs and paste their own grouchy face onto the head section.

These are displayed along with the student's response to the writing prompt: "I get grouchy when..."

3. After reading The Grouchy Ladybug, brainstorm a list of things that make us grouchy with your class. Then have your students Finish the sentence “ _________ makes me grouchy’.  Correct spelling. Create a Kid Pix template that says “_________ makes me grouchy”.    Have the students open the template and complete the sentence.  Illustrate, type name, save and print.

4. After reading the book, open a blank document in Kid Pix and ask the students to draw a picture of the grouchy ladybug meeting an animal of their choice. Have them draw a clock and show the time the two animals met. Have them think carefully about where to place the sun in the drawings, depending on the time of day they chose.

5.    In Kidpiration have two webs, ‘Things That make me happy’ and “Things that make me sad”.  Drag examples of both into the appropriate web.  Enter name and print.  Use template: Grouchy

6.  Survey the class on what their favorite insect is.  Graph it using the Graph Club

1.    Have the students type the following poem with their name in the blank space.  Then illustrate.  A template could be created in Kidpix if you do not wish for the students to type this much text.

Some are different,

Some, the same.

Some are short,

Some are long.

All are right,

None are wrong.

My name is ___________,

It's special to me.

It's exactly who

I want to be!

 2.  Open Blank Kid Pix document.  Using keyboard, type name 5 times.  Change font and color of each name.  Use pencil tool to draw different flowers around each name and color.  Have students color in hill below. Have students write on bottom or top:  My name has ___ letters.
